Student Life

House System

Chesterton Academy’s House system is drawn from the 1,000 year-old tradition of Christian education exemplified in the colleges at Oxford and Cambridge. The Houses provide real, tangible community within the larger school, giving students the opportunity to take ownership, fulfill the call to leadership, and to cultivate the ideal conditions for virtue. Each House has two Senior and two Junior prefects, two faculty advisors, and several parent liaisons.

Encountering Christ

Leading our students to a deep and personal relationship with Jesus Christ is central to our mission. For this reason, we offer the following:

Young altar servers in a church preparing for a religious ceremony, holding candles and a processional cross, gathered near an open door with greenery visible outside.
  • The Eucharist is "the source and summit of the Christian life." For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself (CCC 1324). For this reason, every school day begins with Mass.

  • The faith is the central reality from which all academic disciplines flow and derive their meaning. Faith is at the core of our academic program. All subjects we teach through the lens of Christianity. This makes our school unique. Religion at Chesterton is not merely one academic subject among many.

  • Students pray the Morning Offering, the Angelus and are given opportunities for private prayer. Students will also receive regular opportunities to seek the sacrament of Reconciliation, spiritual formation and participate in school retreats.

  • Each person is a unique and unrepeatable gift with equally unique and unrepeatable talents. At Chesterton, we help students understand their identity in Christ and prepare them for a life well-lived, which means we help them discern God’s calling for their lives.

  • By using the skills they acquire in faith, hope, and charity at Chesterton Academy, our students can build the Kingdom of God in this life and be with Him in everlasting happiness in the next.

Athletics

Sports at Chesterton Academy are parent-driven. As a new school, we look forward to building an athletic program based on what our enrolled students and families want. Since the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, we will encourage sports at every level and will seek to build upon our initial offerings so that we may provide a strong athletic program.

Senior Pilgrimage to Italy

Why Italy? Rome is the eternal city –– not only because it is the spiritual capital of our Faith, but also because of its central role in over 2,500 years of history. As such, it occupies a conspicuous place in the imaginations of Chesterton students as it is present in the background of so much of our curriculum.

Our pilgrimage takes us to all the major churches in Rome, and on to Assisi and Pietrelcina in just under two weeks. We will walk the paths of pilgrims, pray at the tombs of the martyrs, and enjoy being steeped in Italian culture.

Little can prepare our students for the awesome visceral experience of seeing so much of what they have been taught at Chesterton brought to life around them. This pilgrimage truly unites the three pillars of our educational model, and imprints their minds, hearts and senses with the truth, goodness and beauty of their civilizational inheritance.
